Hooper is the creative project of Montreal-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Shane Hooper. Known for his drumming and songwriting contributions with Canadian indie-rock band PACKS, he now steps forward with Hooper as his primary outlet – crafting music that bridges eras and genres, balancing melody and grit, nostalgia and experimentation.

Hooper’s debut album is shaping up to be the most polished and intentional creative project of Shane Hooper’s career to date. Drawing inspiration from the punk rock movement – both as an outlet for raw emotion and a means of defying expectations – Hooper aims to merge that spirit with narrative songwriting rooted in empathy and lived experience.

The record will blend distorted guitar tones with polished, 70s-inspired compositions, reflecting Hooper’s growing musical maturity and the range of influences that have shaped his sound.

As a transplant to Montreal from BC via Toronto, Hooper plans to draw on the city’s vibrant creative community – a network of artists united by a shared love of music. The album will be recorded mostly live off the floor at the veritable 60s-70s time capsule, Mixart Studios, to capture the authenticity and energy of Montreal’s storied art scene.

With this project, Hooper seeks to find his voice among the crowd, balancing catchy yet gritty melodies with reflective, ballad-like moments. His goal is to evoke a nostalgia for the past – even one you never lived – and a yearning for what’s still to come. It’s a record about searching for a sense of place and time, and the longing to finally feel at home.
